Queer Passion

Art direction, Visual identity, Motion design, 3D

2025

Queer Passion is a contemporary reinterpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St John Passion, bringing queer histories of discrimination, persecution and resilience to the stage. In collaboration with Antwerp Queer Arts Festival and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the performance connects classical music with stories of resistance, equality and solidarity.

Visual identity for the Queer Passion event organised by Antwerp Queer Arts Festival.

Yanis Berrewaerts

Projects

Yanis Berrewaerts is a graphic designer, motion designer, art director and 3D artist based in Antwerp. His work sits where music, fashion, performance and queer culture meet: festival identities, award shows, album artwork and moving image, for clients in Belgium and abroad.

Born in Leuven, with Moroccan roots on his mother’s side, Yanis studied fashion design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp before switching to graphic design, earning his master’s in 2021. 3D has since become the core of his practice. His style is maximal and sculptural, but always anchored by strong typography and a clear message. Highlights include the cover for Azealia Banks’ Black Madonna and identity work for the Antwerp Queer Arts Festival and Creative Belgium. He was named one of Flanders DC’s 20 to Watch, and his work has been shown at Dutch Design Week and Graphic Matters.
